open web page in microsoft word

Hi,

I have a web application which outputs an html file
but, when i use the ' file menu - edit with microsoft word ' option, it
visits the server again to display the file.

Has anyone come across this problem. is it possible to open the file
from the cache itself? do we have to set any parameters to the webpage,
so that msword understands and opens the file from local cache

Thanks and Regards

It's not clear exactly what you're doing. But, Word is extremely
source-loyal. If you open a file on a server (assuming Word can do it), then
that's where Word will access the file. And, unfortunately, Word will try to
do this even when/if it's not a good idea.

Therefore, as when working with other non-local hard disk documents/files
(e.g., on floppy/CD/DVD/etc.), copy the file to your local hard drive and
work on it from there.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the reply,
Will try to explain the process better to make it much more clearer ...

user logins to system - > clicks on a link -> system responds with a
open/save option ( its a html page)

Behaviour 1
-------------------
user clicks open ( the web page is displayed) -> user says edit with
microsoft word -> word opens file from the server ( in fact, it
displays the login page inside word)

Behaviour 2
-------------------
user clicks save ( the web page is saved locally) -> user selects the
file on the desktop and says edit with microsoft word -> file opens
properly

Behaviour 1 is not really consistent.. it varies from system to system
and we dont have any clue on why it happens so

Any information will be of great help
