What is the original program to view/open images in Office(Windows?). I
uninstalled a trial image editing program, and now all ico, jpeg, gif etc.
files are shown with that windows flag icon. I tried going through the
listed options when I click 'open with', but I can't seem to find the right
one. Please help!

FYI: Win 98,Office 2000

Office is actually a collection of programs that run on Windows. .jpg and
..gif files are graphics. .ico files are icons, a special kind of graphic
files. You need an image editor to open those files. I'd suggest checking
your system to see what you have. If none, which is a bit hard to believe
because most systems have more than one, search the web to find one you
like.

Lily,
It is a Windows problem rather than Office.
It is possible that no single program will open all those, e.g. in
Win9x, the default for jpeg and gif is Internet Explorer, bmp is
opened by MS Paint and .ico doesn't need to be opened at all but if
..ico files show a flag icon, then that is probably easy to fix
(depending on your operating system)

To restore .ico association:
Make a file called ico.reg in Notepad from the lines below.
Doubleclick it to launch it.
Ensure the first line is REGEDIT4 and the last line is blank and that
your mail/newsreader does not add any spaces to the end of lines.

-----cut below here for ico.reg-----------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.ico]
@="icofile"
"Content Type"="image/x-icon"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\icofile]
@="Icon"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\icofile\DefaultIcon]
@="%1"

-----end file above here

If you don't feel confident in changing all the graphics associations
in Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types, then try this:

IrfanView - Freeware Graphic Viewer:
http://www.irfanview.com/

Might download www.irfanview.com and it's plug-ins. It will open almost all image
files including .ico. It is free.

Thanks Mary, but I already had a link for Irfanview in my reply.
