are .pub files viewable w/ some other application other than MS Publisher?
Someone sent me a .pub file, I don't have Publisher - do I need to have them
resave in .pdf?

Publisher is required for viewing a .pub
document... asking your sender to save
as .pdf and resend would be a good idea.

John, i've read the page whose address you posted for Publisher 2007. From
that, i gather that there isn't a way to send a Publisher file to someone who
doesn't have Publisher and have them be able to edit the document. Is that
correct? It's what i needed to know.

Thanks in advance!

Yes...Publisher is required if you
plan to edit a Publisher document.

If it's just a temporary situation you
may find the trial version to be useful:

It would be an ongoing situation, so i will advise them that they should buy
Publisher. Thanks again. :)
