Opening Word Docs

When i try to open a document without opening word first I get error 10660.
Provided I open word first I can double click on the file and it will open.

I'm using Office 2004 for Mac OSx.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? I have tried changing the programme that
opens the file in in 'file info' screen and this works provided I do it
individually for each file. If I click the change all button it no longer
works for any of the files.

In the future, I'd recommend that you post to microsoft.public.mac.office.word
