Operation Failed error msg in outlook 2002(xp)

I have moved my .pst file from my laptop running office-
2003 to my desktop running office-xp. I set it up and can
send mail, however when I try to receive mail I get a
dialog box that says "The Operation Failed" and all I can
do is click ok. All my mail is available and as I said I
can send mail, I just can't recieve it.

Any Ideas will be appreciated.
PS: have restarted outlook and the os (w2k) a number of
times, but no change.

Thanks.

Are your accounts set up properly? Do you use a spam or antivirus scanner on
your messages before downloading into outlook? is it setup properly?

Yes, I believe that everything is set up correctly. I
have re-entered it multiple times, deleted all accounts,
still I get the same error message. (by the way, when I
test it in the setup dialog box, everything works ok, and
later when I go back to my laptop, there is a test e-mail
from the setup.) I am sure it is something simple. My
next shot is to uninstall outlook and re-install. I have
turned off norton/zone-alarm/popup-blocker, but still no
change. I do not use a spam filter, my ISP does this
before I get the mail. (by the way, about a year ago I
moved my pst from this desktop to the laptop, so this copy
of outlook-2002 is what I used for a year and a half.)

I doubt uninstall will help - detect and repair does the same thing
faster...

how did you move the pst? Make sure the read only flag isn't set.

Is the pst set as the default delivery location (tools, accounts... )

Find and delete the SRS file for the profile or make a new profile (don't
delete the old profile and if you use more than one account, only add one of
the accounts) then select the pst as the default delivery location.

Diane, thanks. Removing the SRS file (actually I renamed
it to hold_*.src) did the trick. Thank you very much.
