Operation Failed error when sending/receiving

My husband has Outlook 2002 and Outlook express on his
laptop. From the first day of installation (August 2003),
we have received "the operation failed" message when
clicking on sending and receive in Outlook 2002 while the
Outlook express sends/receives with no problem. He would
like to be able to use Outlook 2002. Any suggestions?
