"Operation failed" when mapping fields from Excel data

When importing Excel data into Project 2003, I click Finish on the field
mapping wizard. I then get an "Operation failed" message. This action has
worked fine for many months, but recently began to fail. This concided with
a the recent round of security patches pushed down from Microsoft.

Both files are on the local machine, and are both from Excel and Project
2003 versions. The error will appear whether I use existing or create new
maps.

I had the same issue after KB948962 was installed. I went into "Add / Remove
Programs" and uninstalled KB948962. This resolved the issue. Looks like it
is a bad patch.
