Try this:
View>Toolbars
Click on 'Customize'
choose 'Toolbars' (tab)
Click on the NAME 'Menu Bar' to highlight it.
(make sure that it remains checked)
Click on 'Reset' (button).
BTW - things don't "disappear", you may have screwed
yourself.
