Order of records in catalog merge

I am using Publisher catalog merge to create a membership directory from
records in an Access database. I am printing two columns and seven rows per
page. The records are arranged in alphabetical order and are being sequenced
row by row. (That is to say, the first record at the top of column one, the
second at the top of column two, the third in the second position of column
one, etc.) I want the alphabetical sequence to run down the first column on
the page and then continue at the beginning of the second column.

If you are using a booklet setup, click the Catalog merge in the wizard, set your
margins in the arrange menu, drag the handles of the catalog merge area until you see
Area will repeat 2 down by 2 across.

I have done that, but I still have the problem with the order of the record
entries. The records are in alphabetical order by last name. When they
appear in the merged document, record #1 is at the top of the left hand
column, record #2 at the top of the right hand column, #3 in the second
position of the left hand column, and so on. I want to change the order so
that the records are in order within the columns, i.e., records #1-#7 in
order down the left hand column, continuing with record #8 at the top of the
right hand column and so on.

I setup this with my own data and you are right, it goes across rather than down.

Are you setting this up as a booklet? What size?

Thanks for helping with this, Mary. I really appreciate it. Yes, I have it
set up as a booklet on 8.5" x 11" sheets, i.e., the pages in the booklet are
5.5" x 8.5".

Did you guys every figure this out? I am wrestling with the same thing where
I want the information to display down and not across in a two-column format.
Thanks! Lainie

Unless you only have one column per page, you are going to have the names go across
rather than down.
