Orgranization vs Resource

Jeff

When displaying project information I would like to show both the resource
and the organization the resource is in. Ex: John Accounting Bill HR.
Resource groups don't seem to do the trick. This information is for display
purposes only.

Jeff,
You don't say what type of view you want to use, "...for display
purposes only". Some fields are only available with certain types of
views while other fields are available in multiple views. For example,
Resource Groups can be shown in a Resource view (e.g. Resource Sheet)
and it can also be shown in a Task view (e.g. Gantt Chart). Why doesn't
Resource Groups do what you need?

John,
I'm in a task view (Gantt) and nothing seems to show in that view for
resource group even when I enter it on the resource page. I have never used
resource groups so maybe I'm just doing something wrong with how I'm trying
to enter the information. Can't seem to enter the resource group in the task
view so I was trying to enter it on the resource view but was unsuccessful.
Thanks,

Hi Jeff,

As John noted, there are only a few fields that carry from the Resource
side of Project to the Task side of Project. If you entered information
into the Group field on the Resource sheet, that information can be
displayed in the Task Sheet (left side of the Gantt Chart view) by
adding the field Resource Group. The Resource Group field added to the
Gantt Chart View is read only but will display the group for each
resource *assigned* to the tasks. You will only see the group
information when a resource from that group is assigned to the task.

You can also use the Phonetics field added to the Resource Sheet and
displayed in the Gantt Chart view by adding the Resource Phonetics
field. Again, it will only show information for resources assigned to
the task.

For additional information, see FAQ #51 at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie and John,

I deleted my resource sheet and reentered the information and the resource
group information now displays on the task view. Somehow my previous version
must have been corputed. Thank you

Jeff,
It looks like Julie took care of the details, and thanks for the
feedback.
