orientation default settings

The default orientation for my Publisher 2003 is landscape. How do I save
portrait as default?

I seem now unable to set a transparent background to Wordart text. Any ideas?

Open the printer folder in the control panel, right-click your printer, click
printing preferences, is portrait the default?
WordArt doesn't have a editable background. I'm not sure what you are trying to
do. You can create a background with autoshapes.

Thanks Mary, i'm halfway there. The orientation is now correct.

The other half: I am trying to use Wordart to create a text only
(transparent background) to save as jpeg and use as logos for a web site I am
working on.

There is no such thing as a transparent JPEG file. Publisher cannot
create transparent raster files of any type. Try exporting as EMF and
then converting that to a transparent .GIF in the tool of your choice.

Thank you all for info; irfanview a resounding success as wordart no longer
has backgrounds. one other question, if i may? I create a logo say 150 x
100 px; in my web site i create a placeholder the same size but when i come
to insert the image i find that it has increased in size by marginally over
50% in each direction. This seems to happen with all images other than
thumbnails. ???

Saying that the WordArt has a background is inaccurate; as of Publisher
2002 no WordArt has a background. The problem is merely that Publisher
is exporting an opaque file containing your WordArt. Even if there were
no WordArt there would still be the "background" (as you call it), as
Publisher will always export an opaque file.

Check the resolution you're exporting as an image at. If you select
"Desktop printing (150dpi)", then Publisher exports at 150dpi rather
than the 96dpi on which its pixel calculations are based. Select "Web
(96dpi)" instead, or resample in IrfanView. Alternatively, you could use
150dpi and then measure your objects in inches (a 150x100 logo would be
1" x (2/3)").

Many thanks - am impressed with speed of answer. I'm sorry but there's more!
Is it possible to stop the severe flicker when changing to full screen and
vice-versa in IE7 - or should i revert to IE6?

Reverting to IE6 is not a generally good idea, as IE7 contains a new,
more standards-compliant rendering engine, as well as security enhancements.

Unfortunately, I'm not an IE expert - you might want to try
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general
