Out of office reply problem

Linda

We have a LAN and use Outlook for all of our email. We
have staff out of the office who set up an Out of Office
auto reply. The problem is: if mail is sent from within
the network, the reply goes out to the sender, but if
mail is sent from outside, nothing happens. Any ideas to
solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Exchange, by default, is set to not allow replies or forwards to the
Internet, for very good reasons. Post your version of Exchange and someone
can tell you how to enable this option and start the loads of fun when your
Exchange server encounters a mail loop on the weekends and goes down
completely.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Linda asked:
