Outlook 2000 - Mail Merge HTML email

Does anyone know how to overcome the problems with
Outlook 2000 mail merge using an HTML email? I can send
it as an attachment but not as the email itself.

Looking at the Microsoft site, I understand I have to
upgrade to 2002 to fix this bug.

Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't call it a bug; Outlook/Word 2000 were just not designed to do
HTML mail merges. The 2002 versions were.

I used both WORD 2000 and WORD 2002 (came with MS WORKS
with Dell computer). I used both Outlook 2000 and
Outlook Express version 6. Neither one worked.

One of the Microsoft discussion stated that I would need
to upgrade to Outlook 2002 for this capability. I was
looking to see if anyone had an alternate solution.

Thanks

Word 2002 and Outlook 2000 are not compatible with each other for things
like mail merges and e-mail editing -- the versions must match. If you
absolutely must use Word and Outlook for mail merge, you would need to
upgrade both to the 2002 versions. However, there are plenty of other mass
mailing programs out there -- check out a list at

As far as I know, Outlook Express cannot do mail merge at all (though
perhaps one of the third party programs might work with OE).
