Antispyware found spyware on a system I am restoring. Because I hadn't
applied the security updates, I backed out IE6 (and Outlook Express). I
cannot get either Outlook or Outlook express to install, and the IE5 trick
doesn't work because it can see a newer IE5. HELP!!!

Sorry - crystal ball has the weekend off.

Please post exactly what you did, what error messages you are getting, and
how you did what you did in the first place.

We are not looking over your shoulder and require LOTS more information than
you are giving.

Sorry to hear about the crystal ball ;-{ )

a.. Boot drive on one of the servers went phlooey (Replaced it)
b.. Restored it, but OSE/OWS was funky. Tried applying service, however No longer have orig. CD (will adlSR1 need one?) *How can I get a replacement of OWS?)
c.. ANTISPY fired up as the IP filters were still being redone, and it found several of those that don't play well with others.
d.. IE6 and some of the service packs didn't complete after reboot, so I backed out IP6 + OE.
e.. Outylook and OE no longer work. Amongst the message are the 'x08etc,12 Outlook Express cannot initialize MSOE.DLL - disk might be full" and "Outlook cannot start"
f.. Tried the IE5x install per KB article, but the version left behind (probably by W2K SP's) is newer.
Am reviewing the MSI logs now...

When you understand that we need FULL error messages and text of the
problems that you encounter, someone may be able to help you.

"OSE/OWS was funky" tells us nothing.

"IE6 and some of the service packs didn't complete after reboot" - ditto.

"ANTISPY fired up as the IP filters were still being redone, and it found
several of those that don't play well with others. " - again, ditto.

"Tried the IE5x install per KB article" - What article??

Sorry - you are making a bad first year trial attorney's basic mistake -
assuming facts that are not in evidence.

Although alot of lawyers don't mind attorney pokes, I'm not sure I'm one of
them. At least not today, although if you ever are in a dark room, awaken
to find a gun in your hand with two shells, are surrounded by four wild
dogs, Santa, and a lawyer, make sure you shoot the lawyer twice. Ah but I
wax poetic: The facts are in evidence, counselor, its the details that are
the bit of the sticky wicket; to wit:

OSE/OWS placed several messages in the EventLog regarding inability to bind
&c, related to Machine Names; which when recovering SQL were solved.

With respect to Outlook and Outlook Express, searching on the x80040154,2
and OLE Registration Error messages, found
§ Q224876 05NOV2003 Rev. 1, which is where the IE5 Version Conflict was
found out (the version on my machine is newer than the one in the network
image).

and

§ Q296512 14MAR2005 Rev. 5 Which trapped with what appears to be an
addressing conflict (where DEVMAN sees naught) in NTOSKRNL.EXE.

I do believe we have some of the OPS files from last years fandangos if that
might help - after coffee and a trip to the reading room I'm giving one of
my techs in Tempe a call.

Thanks for your help: I await your reply.
