Outlook 2002 Sending/Receiving Progress - not completing

We are experiencing the following new problem:
Outlook 2002 goes to perform its Sending/Receiving tasks,
the task reaches the "completed successfully" stage.
However, the task remains processing until it eventually
times out. Is this a Outlook issue?
