Outlook 2003 and word

I have heard that if I up grade my outlook xp only. That is if I only
upgrade my xp office software with the new version of outlook 2003 that I
will no longer be able to use word xp as my mail writer/reader/editor. Is
this true?

outlook requires the same version of word if you want to use it as your
