Outlook 2003 from Office Standard

I purchased a retail license of Office 2003 Standard for the trial version
that was originally preinstalled on my Gateway 834GM PC.

After running the setup and setting my Pop3 email account for my local ISP I
checked the more settings in email account setup. Outlook is always setup to
connect to the Internet thru LAN. I do have a built in LAN port on my
motherboard, but at this time I do not have it plugged into anything.

I connect to the Internet with a 56k dial up faxmodem. I have been
connecting to the internet manually. In Internet Explorer connections the
default account is set to "dial only if network is not present". When I
click on Internet to connect (instead of manually connecting to internet
first) a dialog comes up with the save password box checked and the dial
automatically box unchecked. I then need to click on connect and it will
dial the internet and start Internet Explorer.

Am I suppose to check the dial automatically box so the Internet can be
dialed without my intervention? Is Outlook 2003 suppose to be left at
"connect thru LAN" or do I need to change this to "use internet explorer or
third party dialer", or "use phone line to connect to email server"? I am
totally confused on what the proper setting is in Outlook 2003 when I am
using a dial up modem to connect to my email server. It seems that no
matter what setting I chose, when I try to run the email test the send email
part always fails.

I have been fighting this trying to figure out how Outlook 2003 is suppose
to be setup for months. I did call my local ISP and they said they could not
tell me how to setup Outlook, only Outlook Express.

Any info would be very much appreciated!

If you dont have a Lan connection, then in Internet Options one of the other
connection options should be used - Lan not selected -
