Outlook 2003 Spiking CPU When First Starting Up

This was previously posted with a different subject. This subject is more
appropriate for the issue at hand:

Hi there,

I recently set up a laptop with XP (SP 2) and Office 2003 (SP 2). I copied
over all previous PST files from the user's previous laptop. Let me add
that this new laptop is screaming fast. Now here is the situation. There
are FOUR PST files that were copied over. Only the main PST file was
imported from the old PST format to the new one (user was previously using
Office XP). The other THREE are still in the old format. What happens
every time the user boots up Outlook is it takes forever to boot up...it
spikes the CPU and almost looks like it has crashed, but really it's just
taking its sweet time loading up. Each of these PST files is approximately
from 1-1.5 GB in size.

Could it be that the other PST files have not been imported in to the new
Outlook format and that is why it's "choking" the CPU or is there something
else that could be the cause of this. It doesn't matter if the user
connects to the internet wirelessly or using a wired connection. The result
is the same with both.

Any thoughts, recommendations or suggestions would be grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Bobby

1) You can try convert the pst to the new format.
2) Try holding down the ctrl key on the keyboard when opening outlook. This
will open Outlook in safe mode (minimal loaded). If this opens fast it
could be a number of things:
- third party add-in
- Word add-in (adobe attached to Word some way??)
Just to name a couple.
3) Try creating a new Outlook mail profile and take 1 pst in at a time.

Hope it helps!

Thanks Jon, I'll take all these steps in to consideration. I was working
with the machine yesterday and it seemed to load up pretty fast. It was
another program bogging down the computer however Outlook (1 time out of 10)
will take it's sweet time loading up. I will definitely be converting the
PST's to the new format as well as checking for any other add-ins (I think
Adobe Acrobat 6 is installed on the computer and therefore the PDFMaker
add-in might be installed).

Once again thanks.
