Outlook 2007 - can't get hotmail mail

Beth

Outlook 2007 has worked fine. About noon today, I can no longer send/receive
hotmail mail. I get the following error message "Access to account was
denied. Verify username or password is correct. Server responded
forbidden". Any idea what could be going on? Outlook Connector was
installed.

I'd delete the account and readd it via the Outlook Connector menu in Outlook.

I just had the same exact problem occur in my Outlook 2003 around 11:00
today. I've restarted Outlook, restarted my computer, downloaded any MS
updates, scanned for viruses and still no remedy. I am still able to open my
Hotmail email account in my internet browser by going to the MSN website and
entering Hotmail there. Any suggestions?

Same thing is going on within my systems and a few co workers are reporting
the same error "forbidden"?

thanks Gail - it does look like MANY people are being affected by this
error.Here's the specific error message:

Task 'Hotmail - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the
account was denied. Verify that your username and password are correct. The
server responded 'Forbidden'. '

Task 'Hotmail: Folder:Inbox Synchronizing headers.' reported error
(0x800CCC33) : 'Access to the account was denied. Verify that your username
and password are correct. The server responded 'Forbidden'. '

I also can go out on the web and login to hotmail and send/read messages.
Outlook just won't retrieve/send. New messages that will not import into
outlook are not related to one sender - no new messages import.

I'm also getting the message. I am *NOT* connecting with the Outlook
Connector because it frequently (daily!) made Outlook 2007 fail to start over
and over again. I am simply using an HTTP-type account.

Please tell me that Microsoft isn't going to force us to use the Outlook
Connector ...

Same thing here - my three hotmail accounts which I've used for years thru
OUtlook aren't working

We don't work for Microsoft.

I'm using Outlook 2003 with the hotmail connector and I have not had any
interruption or errors with service so yes, the Connector works and the
information to resolve has been posted here and in several other threads.

The email notice was sent about a year ago to every hotmail account holder.

In order for any of the MVP's or others to resolve problems that people ask
about here, we do need details. Many people do just post vague questions
which forces us to email back and forth asking more questions before we can
even attempt to recreate the problem and offer a solution.

Hi Brian - it looks like you work for Microsoft?

No, I don't. No one posting here does (or, at least only rarely does a
Microsoft employee post).
This appears to be a big
issue and your message is not very helpful? You note "rubbish" and you
noted
with another person - can you be more "vague"? I just need to have the patch
or proper link to resolve this issue. After reviewing the communication it
appears that some changes have been made and some of us...must have missed
the memo. Can you please be so kind to verify that if you add the outlook
connector "download" that this will solve the problem?

Go to Microsoft's web site and search for "Outlook Connector" Simple.

Consider yourself told. Microsoft disabled all HTTP account access yesterday.
You must either use the Connector or you must convery to a POP account with no
access to the calendar, contacts, or any mail folders other than Inbox.

This isn't something new. Microsoft announced this move YEARS ago and sent
you an email within the last month or two stating that September 1 would be
the deadline. They sent that message to all Hotmail users.

Can you help me? I reconfigured my outlook 2003 to change hotmail to a POP
acct.. When I have outlook test the account, it says it is working. I am able
to send mail via hotmail if I pick that account but I cannot see a mailbox in
outlook to see my hotmail inbox. In the past when I set up account, outlook
automatically showed a folder for my hotmail inbox. Where is it?

A POP email account will deliver mail to the default Inbox in your pst file.
That's where all your downloaded emails will appear. If you want all your
Hotmail folders to show then you need to install the Outlook Connector.

How can I solve this problem? I was getting this message starting yesterday.
What can I do to recover?

People. Don't be so tough on Brian. If you look to his first reply in this
string on Sept 1st, he recommends - "I'd delete the account and readd it via
the Outlook Connector menu in Outlook." We must look past Brian's comments
like "Consider yourself told." and "This isn't something new. Microsoft
announced this move YEARS ago". Ignore those and look back to his first
suggestion. Brian's solution works great! I would not initially delete the
old account until you are sure that all of your important email is viewable
in the new account.

Like most of you, I proactively added the Outlook connector ahead of time.
My Calendars and Contacts were successfully migrated. I continued to receive
emails through my MSN/Hotmail account. Everything worked great until 6:39AM
on Sept. 1st. What a disaster. Shame on Microsoft for not fully testing
this connector and not giving us the one piece of information Brian gave us -
Create a new account.

The steps to correct this problem are:

After installing the Outlook Connector, Open Outlook. You will notice the
new "Outlook Connector" selection in the Menu Bar (7th from the left).

Click on it and select "Add a new Account"

Enter your MSN/Hotmail email address and password.

Voila! You should now see your new Outlook Connector account (displayed as
your email address).

Click the "+" next to the new mail account to expand the account displaying
your mail folders.

Make sure all email is displayed in the new account. I noticed several
emails delivered on the motning of Sept. 1st were not in the new account.

That's all folks!
