Outlook and VirusScan

I am using Win XP Pro and my virus software is McAfee's
VirusScan. The problem I am having is this; Whenever I
open or close Outlook it disables my virus software. Also
when I try and send an email with an attachment I have to
turn VirusScan off otherwise Outlook crashes. Any ideas
out there?
