Outlook and word 2003

When I open my outlook word automatically opens blank document windows and doesn't stop until it errors out. This has made both outlook and word unusable.

I to have been having a problem with Outlook opening up Word when you fire it up. However I just close word and everything works fine. How do I get it not to load word as this is very annoying
