Outlook attachements - slow to open and/or save as

When I attempt to open and/or save a file from an e-mail attachment in
Outlook XP, Outlook temporarily freezes while the file opens up very slowly.
Once it opened, all goes back to working condition.

All other Outlook fuction seem to run smoothly.

Any ideas?
