outlook attachments unaccessable

In Outlook my attachments that was readable previously
suddenly just turned "grey", all of them. They are there
and the sizes are given, but can't be read!!

HELP PLEASE!!

Isn't that just like microsoft to screw you up without
notice? I just did a detect & repair on MS word, and it
blew out and zero'd my whole Outlook system. But,
for your problem, there's a setting switch in your outlook
now that's been changed with the Hotfix update that turns
off viewing attachments.

Do you really mean Outlook or are you talking about Outlook Express
(they're two completely different programs despite the similar name)?
