Outlook attachments

I am using Windows 2000 Professional and Office 2000 with
Service Pack 1. Whenever I try open an attached Office
document (with Word or Excel) in an Outlook message, the
computer reports that I am already using it -- that the
document is already open. This happens on messages which
I receive from others, or on messages that I am sending
with attachments. However, in no case are the actual
documents already open. Thank you for your help.
