Outlook overrides Outlook Express default contact list after updat

Hi all!

I help out a senior with his computer occasionally, here is an annoying
situation I need to solve for him
He is not computer savvy at all ,what he uses his PC for is to send off a
copy of his 'weekly journal' to his relatives and friends.
First he composes it daily in Word then, & then at the end of each week
he opens up IE6 and does a copy of document ,clicks on the 'letter' icon to
brings up a new email message, selects his contacts, and then pastes the
document into the body of the message.
I recommended to him simply open OUTLOOK EXPRESS directly, select
his contacts , and paste his message and send it out from there. I told him
that was a smple way of doing it and opening the browser up to send a
message was an unnecessary step, but apparently he is fixed in his ways and
won't do it because it 'confuses him'.
Moving right along with my problem, apparently I had him try using his
OUTLOOK istead of OUTLOOK EXPRESS for a few weeks, but the user interface was
confusing for him so I deleted his address book, etc. in OUTLOOK and set the
default email in IE6 back to OUTLOOK EXPRESS.

The problem: Every month after Patch Tuesday, the email default in IE6
defaults back to the OUTLOOK address book so I go in and reset the default
email program back to Outlook Express every month- It totally makes him upset
and even after showing him many times to simply go to the selection box and
choose the other Contacts selection it befuddles him.

My Question : Is there a way to do a registry hack or something to
prevent the Outlook address siezing control month after month permanently?
The other alternative is to remove OUTLOOK , how can that be accomplished?

Any suggestions????

Thanks Mike

If he doesn't use Outlook at all, then uninstall it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I deleted Outlook ( only as last resort)
It also cleared a related problem which affected Outlook Express- When
you created a blank Email message, the CREATE message toolbar had the icons
missing i.e. Send,Font,Check Spelling,Attach (greyed out) using the view
select for standard view had no effect
