Outlook Spell Check

Was there ever a time in any version of outlook where you could highlight the text in an email that you wanted to check, then go to tools, spelling and it would check that highlighted text?

I have a user that insists that this is the way he use to do it for the last 7 years and that outlook (2003) is screwed up because it wont check the highlighted text any more, it will only check text that is not highlighted...

I just tested what the user contends and, at least on my computer, OL 2003
first spell checks the highlighted material and, when done, asks if it
should spell check the remainer (non-highlighted) material.
