I have Outlook XP. When I receive certain attachments e.g. *.exe files,
Outlook blocks then. Why? and how do I stop it?

Hi Tony, this is by default:
this is the workaround
Expand the branches to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Office\ 10.0\ Outlook\ Security
Create a new string value by selecting New and then String Value from the Edit menu.
Name the new value Level1Remove.
Double-click the new Level1Remove to edit it, and enter the filename extensions you'd like to stop Outlook from blocking. Extensions should be typed in lower case, without the dots (.), and separated by semicolons (;). For example, type
exe;mdb;vbs
to allow .exe, .mdb, and .vbs attachments, respectfully.
Click Ok and then close the Registry Editor when you're done. You may have to restart Outlook for this change to take effect.

See http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm to learn how to get
the attachments off. One popular method is Attachment Options from

No. Do not download and execute software from an anonymous site like
that. I hope you have good antivirus software if you do. Not to sound
hostile. Oh, wait. I do mean to sound hostile. Outlook blocks
attachments, especially .exe attachments for a good reason. They often
contain viruses, Trojans, and other malware. If you want to receive
attachments, ask your contacts to put them in a Zip file and send you
the Zip. If your contacts don't have a zipping utility, they can get a
great one from www.winzip.com.
