I think I have found a way to solve the problem of Red
X's taking the place of graphics in Word 97.
Create a TEXT box and place the image in the text box. I
have tried this on a chapter I am working on at the
moment and it seems to have worked, although I have no
idea why. I have saved the chapter in the usual way, and
also sent it to a thumb drive and the graphics have
remained as I want them to be in both the saved chapter
and the thumb drive.
You can remove the line around the text box if needed.
