Over allocation corrected by stays in Red?

I have a resource that had two tasks - both showing 8 hours on the same day.
16h was shown in Red. When I reduce the work time to 4h each - shows 8h but
stays in Red?
Don't know why this happens?

Hello Burnley81,

Likely both tasks occur during the same 4 hours. Project flags a
resource as overallocated not due to the number of hours h/she works
in a day, but due to the highest assignment (peak units) reached.
If you schedule two tasks each for 2 hours and assign the same
resource at 100% assignment units, the resource will show in red
(overallocated) even though the total amount of work on the day is
only 4 hours.

I suggest changing the date format through Tools > Options, View tab
to show date and time. I imagine you'll see the two 4 hour tasks
overlap in time.

Take a look at FAQ 34 "Overallocation Occurring In Les Than One Day"
at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thanks Julie - not exactly sure how I resolved it - or why it needed
resolving. But I have managed it using part of FAQ34.
I will try and understand this when I get more time to investigate.

You're welcome Andy. It's possible to resolve the problem in a
couple of ways: using the resource leveling command set to a value
of less than "day by day" would allow Project to delay one of the
tasks to later in the day. You may also manually fix the problem by
dropping assignment units to both tasks. Usually that will increase
the duration so 4 hours of work will now take 8 hours in duration if
the resource is assigned at 50%.

Feel free to post back with more questions as you go -- that's what
we're here for :)
