Overscore

Is there anyone out there who has tried to make
overscores? I have used the Advance field command and
have done it successfully in Word 97. When I open the
same file in Word 2000, it displays and prints wierd.
Word 2002 corrects some of the problems but still is not
correct. I have also tried to use the Equations field (EQ
\o (R CLK,_____). This produces underscoring and so I
must use the advance fields also and this is where the
trouble starts.

The problem seems to occur when I combine two advance
field commands together (Advance up 12, and advance left
30 points).

I must be able to overscore in a multiple line paragraph
without adding to vertical spacing. Can any one help?

Thanks,
Kent Crawford

Have you tried using an EQ field with overscore characters (bearing in mind
that these may not be available in Word 97 and that that might mean you need
a different approach for each version of Word) ?

The Unicode characters 02C9 and 203E are available and seem reasonably OK
(the latter is narrower and slightly higher than the former).
