Page Numbering

We are having a problem with a Word 2002 document. I
didn't create the document, so I'm not aware of what the
author did when she set it up, but here's the problem.

When we insert the page number, we get a {PAGE} field
code. We can right-click on the field and toggle the field
code but it doesn't always hold and when the person does a
print preview she sees {PAGE}, not the number. This is the
first time I've encountered this. Does anyone know how to
get the page number to show all the time?

Stab in the dark, but try this:

Click the "Tools" menu, select "Options", click the "Print" TAB and see if
the "Field Codes" option is checked. If so, uncheck it and click "OK".

One other thing to consider, the brackets around the word PAGE are entered
via the page numbering menu or by pressing CTRL-F9, NOT the brackets next
the "P" that are accessed by the SHIFT key. Typing {PAGE} using the regular
keys would show up just like that in the Header or Footer of your document
because it really isn't code.

Certainly one of the above two should work for you.
