Page orientation reversed

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) Processor: Power PC When I create a new document in MS Word, by default it shows up as landscape orientation even though the document ruler indicates settings for portrait orientation. When I change the orientation to portrait, the words run off the sides of the page. I have tried changing the margins but it makes no difference.

I searched the forum and found the information about creating a new normal template which I did, but it also made no difference.

This problem only appears in documents I've created in the last couple of weeks. Older documents have no problem.

Thanks.

You need to OPEN your Normal template, change the orientation and margins,
and save it.

The Normal template is a file named exactly Normal.dotm.

Unless you have moved it, it should be in
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/

You MUST use File>Open from within Word to open the file, you cannot
double-click it from Finder: you want to open the original, not a copy of
it.

All other documents MUST be closed when you do this, or your changes will be
ignored because Word holds Normal.dotm in memory while any documents are
open.

After you have made your changes, you MUST save the file and quit Word.
Minimising is not sufficient, you must quit the application.

That should cover it: let us know how you get on: there are some other
technicalities I haven't mentioned because they are very unlikely.

Cheers

Thank you, John! I followed your instructions and discovered that the new Normal.dotm document I had created was just fine. I only thought the problem had not been resolved because I kept trying to open the document created using the old Normal.dotm. At any rate, I retyped the document and it works just fine. Thank you so much for your help!
