Page resize disperses objects

J

John h

I have an A4 page document and resized the page to A3.
Publisher then just moved various objects on the page
distributing them across the width of the page. This is
is crazy! I need them to stay where they are. Does anyone
know how to prevent this happening?

You cannot. Publisher like all other DTP programs does not rescale or
reposition objects on a different size page.

But this is exactly what it is doing, and I don't want it
to. I have made my page bigger and Publisher is stretching
some objects and moving others to fill the extra space.
What a whacky program!

John, well you have a pretty damn magical version of Publisher there, as to
date, no version has ever done what you describe.

Under *NO* circumstances will Publisher any version stretch or alter any
objects. It will normally expand equally in all directions and leave your
present objects in the centre of the page.

What version of Publisher are you using?

Are you sure you are actually using the program called 'Microsoft
Publisher' - no more or less.

Can you take screenshots of before and after scenarios, save them as JPG,
and post them here please?

I have pdfs of before and after for anyone to see if
there is a way of attaching the to these posts. Please
advise.

Don't know how to get a jpeg or pdf to post here, please
advise how. I have sent them to your email address Ed.

Send them to my private email and I will post them on a web page. Any 2000 file will
be too big to post here. Remove "my" to reply.

.
I've just discovered that this phenomenon happens when
the file has been created with the use of Publisher's
Wizard. It doesn't happen to files created in the normal
manner, ie manually - building the job yourself. Is there
a way to stop wizard created files doing this?

John, Wizards are only suitable for A4. There are no A3 Wizards at all. If
you want A3 you will have to create one yourself.

In the case of Publisher, yes, if it is set to A3 and you use a Wizard, the
Wizard will set the page size to A4.

You did not tell us previously you were using a Wizard. If you had, I would
have immediately given you the correct and proper information.

Having looked at the images, it seems that your publication is being
synchronised with the Wizard when you change the page size.
Try copying and pasting the entire contents of the document into a new
document, and changing the page size of that.

I didn't know a wizard had been used. The file was passed
onto me, and it was up to me to create from the two A4
pages one A3 page Here is a url for anyone interested in
seeing the images. http://mvps.org/msauer/before_after.htm
Thanks to Mary for putting this on her website.
I fear that Publisher is full of these traps waiting to
catch you out. One reason why print shops are very wary
of Publisher files.

Thanks Ed for your interest in this issue. You were on
the right track. Wizards are the problem.

The only printers that are wary of Publisher files are all the dumb poorly
educated dummmmmies. Printers in the majority are difficult to get along
with, grumpy grannies and totally lacking in decorum and education. There
is the odd one that is difficult to find that know what they are doing and
prepared to help their customers.

There are *NO* traps whatsoever in Publisher if you know what you are doing.
No software is dummmmmy proof.

Just remember, I have no reason not to tell the truth. If there is a
problem with any version of Publisher or any other program, I tell it like
it is - not how Microsoft or Serif or any other software company would like
me to tell it.
