paper size missing in Word

In Word 2003, Page Setup, Paper, Paper size, the "Letter (8 1/2 x 11) option
is missing. I cannot locate an options or custom setting that addresses
this. I uninstalled and reinstalled and got the same problem.

The paper sizes are extracted by Word from the printer driver. That ensures
that Word only displays paper sizes applicable to the printer selected. Try
deleting and reinstalling the printer - first ensuring that you have the
latest driver available for your printer/OS.

I think the list of available paper sizes depends on which printer you're
set up to use. Try doing a "dummy" print with a printer you know can handle
letter-sized paper. I.E. open the print dialog box and change the printer,
then click cancel.

Now see if Letter is available in the Page Setup dialog box.

If not, you may want to examine your printer properties using Control Panel.
(Start > Settings > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.) If you open the
Printers and Faxes window, you may have a File > Server Properties command
that lets you specify available forms there. Alternately, you may need to
poke around in the properties dialog box of your printer.

Thank you. I merely selected a different printer and the appropriate paper
size appeared. I had a little photo printer that only prints 4 x 6 size as
the last printer used. I had no idea Word integrated itself with the
printers used to print.

Bear, thanks. I was unaware that Word worked that way, and the little photo
printer that I got free with a Nikon camera I bought is what changed the
available sizes. I've dealt with it.
