Paste Clipboard Issue

I, too, like Tom C.'s recent post, am having an issue with the paste in my
Publisher documents, although my issue is presenting itself a bit differently.

I am an office manager in a church. Our computers are networked, and all
the files I work on are saved to the server. I am using Windows XP and MS
Office 2000 for Small Business. About a year ago I was given a new computer
and had to transfer my files from my old drive to my new. I used the same
version of Office on my old computer. When I started using Publisher on the
new computer I found that I couldn't copy from one Publisher document and
paste into a different Publisher document. I am able to copy from email and
Word documents into Publisher, and can copy/paste from one Word document to
another. I have searched FAQs and Publisher Help with no luck in finding a
solution. Many of the documents I create are done on the previous week's
document (the Sunday bulletin for the church service) rather than from a
template. Might this have anything to do with it? This has perplexed and
frustrated me for too long!

Can you paste from other publications or is it just the church bulletins?

This is some sage advice from Ed Bennett, our Publisher guru...July 8, a few
days ago.

I've been meaning to write a tutorial on how to do such things properly;
I'll try to do it this week. In short:
* Recreate publication from scratch with placeholders
* Save as template
* Base new publications on template rather than last version

I have Publisher 2000 installed on Vista and on a Windows XP computer and am not
seeing the clipboard issue. There was a problem with tables.

Can you paste special? If you copy the file to your local hard drive, open the
file, does that solve the problem?

I cannot copy/paste from other publisher documents on the computer at my
workstation. However, and here's another piece of the puzzle, when I use
another computer on our network I can copy/paste across other publisher
documents with no problem.

I can't help but think that it's something related to this specific computer
- a setting or something - that I'm not aware of.

The paste special function doesn't work nor does saving the document to my
local hard drive.

I'll try creating a new template and working from that each week, though it
will be a pain in the neck since a lot of the info doesn't change enough to
have to retype all the text each week (or perhaps I misunderstand Ed and I'll
still be able to copy text into my new template each week from the previous
week's document). There has GOT to be a better solution! It worked on my
old computer (and still does), just not on my new one.

There was a security update for 2000 that affected the copy/paste function.

After you install this update, you cannot copy and paste content between
separate instances of Publisher 2000. If you copy content from one instance of
Publisher 2000 and then switch to a separate instance of Publisher 2000, the
Paste command will be unavailable (dimmed) as if there is nothing on the
clipboard.

You cannot uninstall this update, but you can uninstall Publisher 2000 and
install again from your CD. Just don't install the security update.

You're awesome, Mary. I can't tell you how long this issue has vexed me.
I'll pull up the article and read it and hopefully find time to unintall and
reinstall Publisher. I'm assuming not having that the security update (is it
just for Pub or the Office Suite?) will not cause any problems with the
software.

I re-read some of this article. I get the idea once you uninstall 2000 and then
reinstall the security update is ignored.
I know I have installed 2000 on my computer(s) and have never had the dimmed
clipboard. I assume it is because it bypasses the update.
