PC user here with compatibility questions

Hello all,

I have Ppt 2002 on my PC with which I am creating a
presentation that will be burned to CD and distributed to
many different people with different computers, including
those who have Mac's.

Let me first say that I know absolutely nothing about
Mac's. So, I have been unable to answer questions from
those who have them. My biggest concern is this - will a
person with a Mac be able to view this presentation
created with my PC on their Mac? Is their something I
would have to do to make it compatible, like save it as a
Quicktime movie?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance...

Hi

Although this topic has already been covered in depth in this newsgroup, the
short answer is that the PowerPoint file format is the same for all office
versions beginning with Office 97.

That said, there is a host of other considerations to consider. Take a
moment to look through previous postings in this newsgroup or use Google
Groups to find additional information.

I did read through several previous postings before asking
my question but I didn't find an answer that I
understand. I have no knowledge at all about Macs.
They're a different 'breed of animal' to me.

I've tried a search online and couldn't find a direct
answer there either. I have no idea what Google Groups
is.

This newsgroup was recommended and was my last resort. So
sorry to have bothered you.

Go to Google in your browser. Choose groups and search for mac pc
compatibility. There are lots of references from which to choose. As far as I
know a PowerPoint presentation can be viewed by any Mac that has the free
viewer.

Why not burn one and give it to someone with a Mac to try?

Ya know, I use Google all the time and never paid any
attention to the 'Group' option! Thanks Harvey, I'll give
it a go.

Last night I decided to do just that. That would give me
the answers better than anything else, I believe. All the
info I've found to this point doesn't address my specific
questions.

This presentation is images with music and very little
animation except slide transistions. From what I've
gathered thus-far, some jpegs won't show up on Mac's and
this pres. is loaded with them!

Thanks again Harvey.

Hi again 3ofªs,

It¹s not a bother, so I am very sorry to have implied that it is. My worry
is that I would not be providing a comprehensive list.

There are some issues that crop of fairly frequently, though. So let me
point you to some articles that might help.

First, there¹s a whole section of PowerPoint tips and tricks here:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/powerpointx/using.aspx?pid=usingpowerp
ointx

The first article is Present with PowerPoint on any platform. It addresses
the issues you have raised.
pointx&type=howto&article=/mac/LIBRARY/tips_tricks/officex/pp_crossplatformt
ip.xml>

There¹s also a link to an article titled From Windows to Mac and back:
Working across platforms with Office v. X
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/officex/using.aspx?pid=usingpowerpoin
tx&type=tips&article=/mac/LIBRARY/how_to_articles/officex/of_crossplatform.x
ml>

Things can get a bit esoteric, so if you run across a specific problem,
don¹t hesitate to post a question here.

In a few weeks PowerPoint 2004 will be released. It will have a
compatibility checker designed to address cross-platform considerations.
This is a version you will definitely want to have.

Again, my apologies for a curt response the first time around. Dunno what I
was thinkin.
