Percentage

Hi all,
I format a cell with percentage format and when I type in a number, say 12,
the cell show up 1200% instead of 12% that I want. How can I make it appear
12%? I have Office2003. Thanks in advance.

regards,
John.

What I suggested is NOT a workaround, btw.. if you set a cell for %age
format, it is assumed that the cell represents the number 1 where 1 is a
whole unit.. to show a percentage of the 'whole', you then have to insert a
number that is less than 1 to indicate the %age.. hence 0.12 is 12% of the
'whole'..

Mike,
I know the work around, but it's really inconvenient for users since they
use this on the daily basis. Is there another way, or settings that allow
you just to type in the amount and it come up with the percentage.

By the way, I used it on 2 computers and 1 does come up with the actual
percentage correspond to the number you type in. I couldn't figure out the
difference on those 2 computers.

Thanks for the help.

regards,
John.

If you leave the format of the cell as alpha-numeric or simple numeric and
label the column or row accordingly, that is as good as it gets..

A percentage is the result of a calculation based upon more than one
number..to show 12 as being the percentage in a cell formatted to show
percentages, one has to do the calculation manually..

12 as a %age = 12/100 = 0.12.. so 0.12 is what you have to enter..
