Photo Editing in Publisher 2003?

cindyhi

I just upgraded from Publisher deluxe 2002 with photo editing to Publisher 2003. I had the new version delete the old one. Does publisher 2003 have photo editing? I looked on the comparsion table but it did not have anything on photo editing. If it does not have it should I reload Publisher deluxe 2002?

Publisher 2002 Deluxe with Photo Editing was replaced by Publisher 2003 with
Digital Imaging (they changed from *Deluxe* name to *Digital Imaging* naming
convention). But it includes Digital Image Pro 9 instead of the older
Picture It! Product. It's much better than your older version. Make sure you
install the other CD's.

Brian K you are incorrect.

Publisher 2003 does REMOVE the Microsoft PhotoEditor and replaces it with
NOTHING.
Some dumb failed programmer at MS has again tried to decide for us what we
want to do and need.
WHO THE HELL DO THESE incompetent failed dummmmmies that MS hires think they
are.
As the MS PhotoEditor is a SHARED program they have no right to decide for
US.
It is about time they employed some competent management at MS as there is
NONE.

I had to immediately dig out my other CD and re-install the MS PhotoEditor
back on to my system.

How am I incorrect. Please point out where I stated that *ANYTHING* was not
removed or removed. The original poster said she had Publisher 2002 Deluxe
with Picture It! Photo. All I said was that Publisher 2003 with Digital
Imaging replaced that product.

Waiting for cite.

It's probably easy enough to build a case for or against this depending on
who you are and what you're trying to install. On the one hand if the user
had Pub2002/PictureIt and got Pub2003/Digital Imaging then they would be
better off uninstalling the entire previous package and installing the new
one. On the other hand if they did not purchase the much pricier Digital
Imaging version (I think it's around $40 more) then it would have been nice
to leave the PictureIt behind. I don't know that this makes the programmers
dummies. My guess is that some other than the programmers wrote the
installation program part, but it would have been nice to ask since they are
clearly two programs. Perhaps someone from MSFT could note this for next
time. As it is, it is not too much trouble to reinstall PictureIt, it's
just annoying.

Thanks for your help, as I just loaded only Publisher 2003 I decided to reload Picture It. Now I need to decide if I should buy Publisher 2003 with digital imaging or should I just stay with Publisher 2003?

If you do wish to move to Publisher 2003 with Digital Imaging, you will need
to return your standard Publisher 2003 within 30 days.

Cindy, as an FYI, the Digital Imaging Pro 9.0 is far superior to the Picture
It! product that it replaces.

Brian,

I totally agree. I used to use PhotoImpact (ULead) pretty exclusively, but
I use Digital Image Pro and Library now all the time. I find it to be more
intuitive and it actually has some near professional results. It's not
PhotoShop, but it's pretty darn good and way better than Picture It! for
anyone using digital camera images.

I don't agree at all. Serif PhotoPlus next version even beats Photoshop.
Has far better algorithms than Photoshop for a start.

I still use PhotoImpact for image stitching as to date have found nothing
that comes close to the way PhotoImpact has that feature.

Hi David,

I've never tried PhotoPlus. I just looked at the site and it looks pretty
good. I like how it has correction layers like PhotoShop (PhotoImpact and
DIP don't have those features). I may purchase a copy of this and give it a
try. One thing I particularly like about DIP is that it is very easy to
use. You can make typical corrections with photos without really knowing
much about what you are doing. If you are a professional then you will
probably want something like PhotoShop, PhotoImpact, or perhaps PhotoPlus,
but for people like my wife and kids the DIP package works great. The
corrections made in DIP are intuitive and seem to print really nicely.
And... it is way better than PictureIt!

I didn't see any interesting text creation in PhotoPlus' feature list. I
really like some of the things you can do with PhotoImpact (3D, backgrounds,
text on path shapes, etc.) and I haven't seen that kind of functionality in
any other photo program. The text is mostly good for website development,
but you can make some great looking text with shadows, shapes, etc. in
almost no time and save it to just about any format you might want. I do
wish that PhotoImpact and DIP had correction layers so that we didn't have
to save a copy of the file to store the changes and resort to the original
at a later time. PhotoShop does the best at this that I've seen, but it is
kind of pricey. PhotoShop's little sister (PhotoShop Elements) has layers,
but not for correction. Still, PhotoShop Elements 2.0 is pretty nice for
the price as well.

I don't think I'll ever just have one program that I use for everything.
It's too bad we can't just throw them all up and have one great one come
down, but it seems that for now it will be pretty easy to identify "must
haves" in several different programs. Fortunately they are all pretty easy
to use so it isn't difficult to switch between them.

My two Twinkies...
