Picture alignment in Word 97

I use Office 200) but a friend has 97 and does quite a lot of work with pics
in documents and wants to centre her pictures (horizontally) in Word
documents. I told her to use Format Picture > Layout and select centre
alignment... but that doesn't seem to be available in Word 97. And while the
picture is selected, the alignment icons in the toolbar are greyed out.
So how can it be done?? Or is that a feature that 97 didn't have??
Thanks

If the picture is inserted In Line With Text (not the default in Word 97),
it can be centered using Ctrl+E. If it is "floating" (wrapped), then in Word
97 I believe you have to use this tedious procedure:

1. Display the Drawing toolbar.

2. On the Draw menu, select Align or Distribute, then Relative to Page.

3. Select Draw | Align or Distribute again and choose Align Center.
