how do i change the background of a picture? keeping the image itself but
changing the background it stands in, please help

As I don't have the foggiest idea what you're blathering on about, I
couldn't begin to tell you. WTF does "stands in" mean for starters?!
Whatever it is I bet it requires a proper graphics application, not Office.
Office doesn't have such a thing.

You're going to need a good photo editing program and a bit of time to learn
how to use it. You are not going to find it in Office however.

Use Paint. Not part of Office, part of Windows: Start - All Programs -
Accessories - Paint. Make a background rectangle of the size and color you
need, copy the portion of the graphic you want to keep, and paste it onto the
background rectangle you just created. Save.
