Pictures inserted as windows metafiles are not visible any moore

I use office 2003. Metifile pictures are not visible any more in any office
program. Dont know why. There is an X in the corner where the picture was
located. The files work ok on an other computer.

Go to Help/Check for Updates and install SP1 for Office 2003. That usually
resolves "missing pix" issues.
