Please Help...can't recover e-mail

Hi,

I helped my mom restore her computer, and backed all of
her outlook files to a CD. I tried putting the .dbx and
folder info files back into outlook, and it won't
recognize them at all. I tried converting them to excel,
access, and just about everything under the sun, and
still no look. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Hi - if you have dbx files, they're for Outlook Express, not Outlook. You'll
need to copy them to the hard drive to the folder of your choice and remove
the read-only attribute they inherited from the CD. Then you can direct
Outlook Express to use that folder (tool, options, maintenance, store
folder). If you didn't get her .wab file you may not have gotten her address
book, note....

Note-
This is a group to support Outlook from the Office group of programs.
Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer and is a quite different
program, despite its similar name..

You will probably get a faster and more expert answer if you post this to an
Outlook Express news group.

Try posting in one of these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress for OE 5.5x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress for OE 6.x
microsoft.public.internet.outlookexpress.mac for OE for Macintosh

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

A good website for information on OE is:
http://www.tomsterdam.com/

Marla,
You need to use the "import" function in outlook. You
go to "File" "Import" and "Messages" and it will walk you
through. You will browse to the mail folder and import
the mail folders. You can do the same thing with the
address book.
