Here's my problem:

I have a reoccuring task that I have scheduled for the 1st Monday of every
month. However, sometimes the task is completed later in the month. When
this happens, I would like the future dates to start a month after the last
task was completed (i.e. if the task was completed on the 3rd monday of the
month, I want the future tasks to be scheduled on the 3rd monday of the month
from then on).

All I can do now is update the one task, but the rest of the tasks won't
update automatically. Can you help?

Fiddler,
The only way I can think of to set up that kind of sequence is to link
the tasks with "x" days of delay in a finish-to-start link (i.e. do not
use the recurring task menu option). If the delay is fixed (e.g.
aaFS+19d) the next task will start a month (working days) later than the
completion of the first task (assuming it is a one day task). To get
variable delays, for example to ensure the next task is always on the
3rd Monday, each delay will have to be individualized for the number of
days in a month. It starts to get complicated.

This all works great if the task is one day Duration. If it is something
else there are two choices. Manually adjust the schedule as each month's
task is completed, or use VBA to re-schedule tasks. VBA can take into
account a variable Duration task and it can always ensure it will occur
on the 3rd (or whatever) Monday.

Hope this helps.

Hi ?,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I would delete the remaining individual tasks and create a new recurring
task with the new dates.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
