Hi
I have a frontpage 2003 created site that works great.
My problem is that I have a large sound file (5MB) that
is played after my main page is downloaded. What I need
is a message to inform the viewer that a file is been
downloaded and to wait for the filem, and I need the
meaasge to go away after the page with the file is
completely downloaded. Can someone tell how I can do this?
My sie which is a community website does not use .asp and
the solution needs to be on the client side. The hosting
company, of course, uses the frontpage extension.
Any solution should work in both ie and netscape
Thanks

Not what you want to hear, but you might
consider reducing the size of the file.
For people "behind" dial up modems,
if they downloaded at 56kbs it would take
89 seconds to download.
At a more realistic 42kbs it will take 119
seconds to download and play.

If it is something that you really want or need people
to listen to, give them a link and the option to "Click and listen"

<imho>
If I have to wait 2 minutes for a page to finish loading,
it never gets to finish loading because I am already gone.

Ben,

Try converting the file to a different format..

Changing it to a .asf (advanced streaming format) OR windows .wma file could
make it 1/10th the size.

Hi Steve,
You might want to re-check those times.
56.6 is 3 minutes per megabyte.
That's a 15 minute download.

5mb =5,000,000 bytes ( not counting the extra 24 bytes per kb )
56kbs = 56,000 bytes per second
5,000,000/56000 = 89 seconds. plus or minus.!!

Or is the battery dead in my Dick Tracy two
way wrist radio / calculator??

Oops,
Forgot to multiply by 8 for the bytes to bits rule.
Sorry My first programming class was 27 years ago.
Punch cards yet.
