POP emails, where do they go?

I just have a question about POP. I know that when you
have your email setup with the POP protocol that it
downloads all emails off the server and stores them
locally. What i want to know is if they are downloaded
locally are they kept in some kind of file? like a .pst?
the reason i ask is because i setup my email with POP then
switched to Micrsoft Excahnge Server. Now when i go into
mail the emails i had when i had it setup with POP are
gone and i don't know how to get them back. i try to setup
my email with POP again but i do not see them. Any
suggestions?

POP mail is stored in whatever storage exists on the POP client. For
Outlook, it would be a PST file. Don't change your Outlook profile - search
for *.pst on your hard drive (include hidden/system folders if apropos for
your OS). You can use file | open | to open the file and then move or copy
items into your mailbox, or import the data (presuming you won't be
exceeding your mailbox quota on the server)
