Popup Box on roll over

I have several pages of text material. I want to setup certain words on the
page and when the mouse rolls over that word have a small box popup with a
definition of that word. These words would not be links. I know I can do
it with links via tooltips and I've seen lots of javascripts that will pop
up a link description but how can I do it without making those words link to
something?
