Is there any way to add a messageboard to a website? I
keep getting requests for a means to post to oour website
that can be viewed by all and responded to also.

I have a guestbook up but that doesn't seem to be the
answer. Any suggestions?

I just used the discussion web template eveythining works
properly except nothing shows up in the contents and I
can't seem to find out why

Perhaps a silly question on my part: did you publish it
to your host in order to test it out or did you attempt
to test within Front Page? It needs to be published as
the Front Page Extensions are needed to process the
discussion web stuff.
