PowerPoint Background

Is there a way when inserting a slide from another
powerpoint file to insert the new slide and keep the
original background/formatting without taking on the
background/formatting of the existing slide?

PowerPoint 2000 doesn't let you use multiple templates. See
http://www.echosvoice.com/multipletemplates.htm for work arounds.
