PowerPoint CPU Usuage

When I open PowerPoint now it hogs the CPU trying to load the designs. Why
would this have changed? It is using like 98% of the CPU and taking 10
minutes to load.

Right before my hard drive failed, every time I tried opening PowerPoint, PC
Usage went up to 100% and took forever to load any files. It may be that
your hard drive is going bad, but you should eliminate other possible
problems. A friend had 100% CPU usage problems, and it turned out his was
600+ spyware that had been downloaded onto his computer (he had no firewall,
and cable Internet). So you might want to run a spyware scan. I'd also
suggest cleaning out the temp files and Internet caches and trying a defrag
on the hard drive.

In addition to Linda's good suggestions, you might check this:

I think this isn't really your problem, but I wonder if it's related --
maybe there's an add-in or something causing the designs to take a long time
to load (and in the case of the blank ones, maybe they just don't ever quite
get there).
