Powerpoint crash

I've updated Powerpoint 2003 to the recommended service pack as per
instruction. Every time I try to add an image from a file, Powerpoint closes
for no obvious reason. Where do I go from here?

What kind of image does PPT crash on? TIF? JPG? EPS? EMF? All of them?

It's not the picture type that causes it to close. It's when I try to select
a folder other than the "my pictures" folder, that's what causes powerpoint
to close. Since I sent the original message, I've been dragging all photos
into the "my pictures" folder that I want to add to a presentation. So far,
that seems to have solved the issue...

Well, at least you have a workaround. But that shouldn't happen. Wish I knew
what to suggest to fix it....

Updates read as follows:

Update for Office 2003 (KB07417): OTKLOADR
Office 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2): MAINSPff
Update for Outlook 2003: Junk E-mail Filter (KB907492): OUTLFLTR

All the above were updated on 11/15/05

I don't use Outlook. Should I dump that? It does allow for it... I'm
assuming the first in the list is the SP1 you're referring to. Neither of
the Office 2003 updates will allow their removal.

There were no error report prompts for the crashes.

Thanks for your help so far, Jim

Steve,

I'm assuming by "roll back," you mean "remove" my listed updates? If that
is the case, I can't. My "add or remove programs" won't allow their removal.
All I can remove is the Outlook 2003 update as previously posted. Should I
go ahead and download SP1 from the link you provided anyway?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

Looks (offhand guess here) like you've got SP2 but no SP1.
That's not unusual, as SP2 would have had all the SP1 fixes rolled into it.

But that also leaves you without a way to back up to SP1.

[Google to the rescue]

Ah ... no, perhaps not.

Looks like you can D/L SP1 here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/CD010798601033.aspx?iStartAt=11

I'd roll back both of the SP2 fixes, download SP1 and apply that, then hold off
until we see if MS offers any further info/patches re the problem you ran into.
